————————————————————————————-

April 1, 2017  Prompt #1 – not funny

His serious face (5)

This is not funny (5)

April 2, 2017   Poetry Prompt #2 – patience

I
learned it in line
at the post office

You
need it for work
need it for family

Axel Rose
sang about it

If I can’t
have you right now,
I’ll wait here.

April 3, 2017  Poetry Prompt #3 – Write about your father or father figure

I
once gave
Dad
a poem
for
Father’s Day
when I was
younger

I
once gave
Dad
writing on green paper
for
Father’s Day
when I was
younger

I liked
that song
Father Figure
when it came out
when I was
younger

The poem “The Writer” by Richard Wilbur

Father Figure by George Michael

October by Valeri Beers

October

the trees
are
rusting & dying

the air
is
losing its
heat
&
freezing
to my
windshield.

scrapescrapescrapescrapescrapescrape
scrapescrapescrapescrapescrapescrape

ugh.

Flying
down the road
with
Gordon,
I wonder
if
he is going
further
than
she
allows
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

About this poem: Gordon (Sumner) is also known as Sting. I was
listening to his song "She's Too Good For Me" a lot when I wrote this. This poem is also in my book

I will be the guest poet on The Power of Poetics: A Salute to Women Poets on March 11 :)

The Power of Poetics Blogtalk Show Presents: A Salute to Women Poets! 03/04 by The DC Poetry Project | Entertainment Podcasts.

March is National Women’s History Month and to celebrate, the Power of Poetics BlogTalk Radio Show will salute the many women poets who shaped our world and changed the course of history through their works. These women lifted their voices through their words to fight for rights, to be free of discrimination and stereotypes, to break free from rules set forth by men, family, and society and to be themselves. Please join us every week to celebrate and to share poems that are old and new.

Click the link up above to listen to the March 4th show!

Please listen to the show or share your thoughts about poems, women, women poets, my poems or read a poem by a woman YOU really like 🙂  I will be reading poems from my book   ….details… and maybe poems you haven’t heard 😉

The phone number is 646 716 8754.

The way it works is, you can call the number and listen to the show through your phone (speakerphone maybe?)  or you can press “1” and participate in the show.

Thank You & a snow poem

Sitting here, watching the snow fall silently, I am thinking of things I am thankful for.

Yes, yes the old “my family and friends” but it’s true and there are TOO MANY to name by name without leaving a bunch of people out and feeling terrible about forgetting them.

I am also thankful that I have good physical and mental health so that I may help my family and others when needed.

I am thankful that I have a warm, safe place to live, food to eat and internet 🙂  (Really)

Ok and now the poem. This how Fall in Maine is today…..as borrowed from a newspaper ad:

———————————————————-

welcome to Fall! (in Maine)

it’s time for boots! (snow)
it’s time for hoodies! (as in put your hood up you’re getting snow in your hair)
it’s time for fires! (in the pellet stove & chimney fires, which are scary)

Summer poem – by Valeri Beers

Why
did you
leave
so quickly?
Was
it something
I
said?

Why
were you
so
inconsistent
with
your warmth?

This was written back in August 2004
